EO Plugs-in Coventry's Car Park

Earlier this month, we electrified Salt Lane car park in Coventry – installing a total of 18 EO fast chargers for electric vehicle drivers looking to park in the city. Supported by Coventry City Council, the installation includes our EO Pay unit – allowing drivers to pay for charge using a contactless debit or credit card. No need for apps, RFID cards or memberships!

01. Project overview

Located in the City Centre, Salt Lane car park is spread across six floors and now offers a number of dedicated spaces for electric vehicles. Installed by our partner Stratford Energy Solutions, the industry-leading charging infrastructure offers drivers an easy park and charge solution in Central Coventry.

02. The solution

Upon arrival at the car park, electric vehicles drivers can charge their vehicle in two ways:

  • Once plugged-in to a select number of chargers, drivers can initiative the charge using a contactless payment card at the adjacent kiosk EO Pay. Drivers pay for a fixed cost charging session based on time, which can be topped up if planning to stay longer than the average trip into the city!

  • Drivers can also power their vehicle using one of our EO Genius chargers – payment is done on a ‘Pay-as-you-go’ basis through the EO App (free to download on all smartphones). The app allows the drivers to start or stop their charge and carefully monitor the amount they’ve spent.

Behind the scenes, Coventry City Council will manage the charging infrastructure using the EO Cloud – our industry-leading management platform.

03. Next steps

This installation at Salt Lane car park is the start of many that EO Charging will be rolling out across the UK in partnership with local councils and authorities. The car park has been available for all electric vehicle drivers since mid-October 2019 – perfect for those commuting to work, school or simply looking to discover the city centre.

Coventry City Council continue to lead the way when it comes to innovative solutions for reducing carbon emissions - we're proud to be supporting them with some of our open access, contactless charging systems at Salt Lane.

This is a fantastic showcase of how adaptable our electric vehicle charging offering can be for any size car park and that open access payment is the way forward for the on-the-go EV driver.
